Not Always a Tire Problem
If your C7 Corvette keeps losing air, the problem is not always a nail.
Over the years, we have heard the same story from a number of C7 owners—especially Z06 and Grand Sport drivers. The wheel looks fine from the outside, the tire has no obvious puncture, but pressure keeps dropping. Once the wheel comes off, the real issue may show up on the inner barrel: a bend, a hairline crack, or evidence of an earlier repair.
This does not mean every C7 wheel will crack. It simply explains why recurring slow leaks deserve a closer look at the wheel itself.
Why Z06 and Grand Sport Are More Affected
Compared with a standard Stingray, the Z06 and Grand Sport run a much more aggressive wheel-and-tire package. The Grand Sport, for example, uses a 335/25ZR20 rear tire. That short sidewall leaves less tire to absorb a sharp pothole or broken edge before the impact reaches the wheel.
Add the width of the wheel, high-grip tires and real-world roads, and the wheel is being asked to stay light while handling serious load.

A cast wheel begins with molten aluminum in a mold. A fully forged wheel starts with solid aluminum that is worked under high pressure before final CNC machining. For a wide, low-profile performance application, forging gives engineers a stronger material foundation to work from while controlling weight.
That does not make forged wheels indestructible. A severe enough impact can damage any wheel.
